Real estate video camera settings that survive the whole house

The useful settings are not the most cinematic numbers on a cheat sheet. They are the smallest repeatable choices that keep rooms readable, color stable, motion natural, focus dependable, and the files easy to finish.

Practical baseline: for a normal-speed phone walkthrough, test 4K at 30 fps with the rear main camera, standard stabilization, a clean lens, and enough free storage. Keep the same camera during a clip. Test focus, exposure, and color in the hardest room; lock a control only when the shot benefits. Use 60 fps for planned slow motion or a defined movement need—not as a default—and break the route before major light changes. 1. Define the recording and delivery job first

Camera settings solve a capture problem. Start with the finished job: a vertical property Reel, a horizontal listing overview, an agent introduction, a normal-speed room sequence, a few slow-motion details, or footage for a professional editor. Then name the device, camera app or camera body, primary destination, orientation, delivery resolution, deadline, and person who will edit.

2. Choose resolution and frame rate

Resolution affects framing options, storage, transfer, editing load, and delivery. Frame rate affects motion, available light, shutter choices, storage, and whether the editor can create clean slow motion. Choose both with the complete workflow in mind.

Keep the primary normal-speed clips at one frame rate unless the editor has approved a mixed plan. Label every higher-frame-rate clip with its intended playback. Do not assume 60 fps is automatically smoother and therefore better: it can require a faster shutter and more light, and it creates more data. Do not assume 24 fps automatically looks cinematic: poor movement, exposure, light, or pacing remains poor at any rate.

3. Control shutter, aperture, ISO, and phone exposure

A property combines bright windows, shaded rooms, practical lights, glossy surfaces, and dark transitions. One exposure value rarely survives the complete route. Break the house into lighting zones and decide whether each shot is safest with automatic, locked, or fully manual exposure.

For a mirrorless starting point, many operators test a shutter close to twice the frame rate: roughly 1/50 at 24 fps, 1/60 at 30 fps, or 1/120 at 60 fps. Treat that as a motion-blur test, not an inviolable rule. Local electrical frequency, LED fixtures, screen refresh, available light, movement, and the exact camera can require a different shutter to control flicker or exposure.

4. Choose white balance, profile, and HDR deliberately

White balance should keep neutral surfaces and connected rooms believable. Automatic white balance can be useful when light genuinely changes, but it can also drift during a clip as a window, cabinet, wall, or practical light fills more of the frame. Test auto behavior, then lock or set white balance for a stable lighting zone when the device and workflow support it.

Apple's current iPhone guide includes Auto FPS, HDR Video, Lock Camera, Enhanced Stabilization, and Lock White Balance on supported models. These are separate decisions. For example, Lock White Balance may reduce color shifts inside a consistent lighting zone, while Auto FPS may change the recording rate in low light. Check the exact device and operating system before building the shoot preset.

5. Choose the lens and focus behavior

The widest available lens is not automatically the best property lens. A very wide view can make edges stretch, rooms feel unlike the in-person space, faces distort, and camera movement become more obvious. A tighter view can hide layout and make a small room difficult to frame. Test the actual room from the planned camera height and path.

6. Match stabilization to the movement

Stabilization modes can crop the frame, change low-light behavior, alter motion, or prioritize different camera movements. Choose the mildest mode that supports the shot, then practice the route. Software cannot turn an uncontrolled walking path into a clear property story.

Google's current Pixel Camera guidance describes different stabilization modes for light movement, still shots, and heavy movement on supported devices. Use the device's own current documentation to understand the mode, then judge the recorded property clip rather than the label.

7. Copy a starting preset for the actual shot

These are test cards, not universal answers. Run the card in the hardest room, revise the setting that fails, and save the final property-specific decision for the editor.

8. Run a property test and record the decisions

Test with the exact camera, app or firmware, lens, support, orientation, recording format, and operator planned for the shoot. Record ten-second files in the exterior, entry, brightest priority room, darkest priority room, mixed-light room, primary view, and agent position.

Transfer at least one test through the intended editor and export path. A file that looks good only in the camera app has not completed the test.

When listing photos are the better input

Do not force a camera workflow when the property cannot be captured consistently, the agent cannot return, the source footage is incomplete, or the approved professional gallery already tells the useful story. What are the best camera settings for real estate video?

There is no property-wide preset that is best in every room.
